Our Social Activities committee is offering a group tour of the Fort Worth Stockyards on June 29, 2017. We will car pool from Genesis UMC arriving at the Visitor Center by 10 a.m. The tour cost is $5.75. Payment and signup must be completed by the June 21 meeting. This guided tour includes historic building and facts, as well as art work. Join us to learn about our unique history during this one hour tour. We will have lunch afterwards at one of the many nearby restaurants. If you can't make the meeting on the 21st, use our Contact page on this website and we will get back to you. The first field trip is to WinStar Casino on April 20th and it was a great success. This committee is going back to the drawing board to plan its fall outing(s). Building on their success, there should be exciting news soon. And after every meeting, this committee hosts lunch at Luby's, so plan to join us at Luby's Cafeteria at the South Hulen location immediately following our general meetings - so please join us.
You missed a great time when our Social Activities Committee took us to the State Fair of Texas on October 13. We went by bus from Genesis UMC, 7635 South Hulen. What a treat to be dropped at the gate - no parking or driving hassles. The cost for the bus was only $20 and there was no gate charge as it was Senior Day. Interesting displays including a replica of the Sistine Chapel and lots of food.
Last September we rented a bus and 34 of our members were driven to the Ross Perot Museum in Dallas. Door to door service plus bottled water and a snack for only $25. This new outstanding Museum is very large (5 stories!) so we couldn't see all of it, but what we did see was great and made us all want to plan on going back on our own and spending the day.
In the past we visited the U. S. Mint and the Kemball Art Museum as well as touring the Clark Gardens near Mineral Wells; as well as the Confederate Museum, the Gone With the Wind Museum in Cleburne, and attended a touring Broadway play at Bass Hall. So you never know what will be planned next.
As part of activities we perform and participate in Community Service. This committee is working with the Food Bank to hold a project so our members can do something hands on for this charity. On Saturday, April 23, we will have a table at the Fort Worth Family Safety Day and a truck to shred documents will be available. Last year's National Day of Service was celebrated with the collection of school supplies for economically challenged children at a grade school and a 6th grade school at our August 19 meeting. We collect food for the hungry each month - please bring non-perishables to our meetings. We always plan a special recognition for veterans in November. We hope to see them at our meetings.
